Show FRANK MflRi IN LIVELY SCRAP London Sport Writer Tells of Thrashing Given Gordon Sims by American x Heavyweight. Frank Moran, the American heavyweight, heavy-weight, gave Gordon Sims of Portsmouth, Ports-mouth, England, a lively thrashing in London recently. Here is an account of the contest by a British sporting writer: "Ii was rather a remarkable start to the contest, for Sims, with his very good left hand, jabbed Moran's head back on several occasions and then countered a left lead with his right to the jaw. Still, the punch that hurt most was Moran's left, and that was the story of the contest Moran was too strong for Sims, and when the American punched the force of the blow went through tho guard and right on to the object not so much because of the exactitude of the hit as because of tho force of It "When Moran let the whole of his strength go into a punch, it did not matter whether Sim's arms were in the way or not, Sims was hurt The Portsmouth man looked like a middle-weight by the side of his rock bound opponent, and in any exchange of bjows Sims always" suffered tho more. -' Sr ' ' V "In justice to Sims it must bo said that up to the end of the contest he was leading on points, but in tho fifth round when Moran landed a terrific ter-rific right hand punch on the chin from which Sims found it necessary to rest for eight seconds, it was clear that the contest' could not go on for long "Sims, as plucky as could be, got up and resumed with fine vigor, but though he went through that round splendidly ho was hit again with a right hand punch that landed on the cheekbone, and after a rest ho stayed to the finish of the sixth round. "Much to the disgust of Sims his seconds gavo up the contest, arid it was just as well they did, for the result re-sult could only have gone one way, and all that, can be said of Sims is tuat ne ub not strong enougn lor the man from Pittsburg, but he took a thrashing with the greatest of pluck moreover, It must be said for tho loser that ho had scored more points than tho winner when tho bout was over." |
