Show BISHOP CLASS , GIVEN FAREWELL Los Angeles, Aug 27 The Right Rev. Joseph S. Glass, bishop of Salt Lake, will leave Los Angeles for his new field Monday. Prominent Los Angelea business men attended a farewell in honor of the newly-elected bishop last night at tho Alexandria The addresses rang with praise for Bishop Glass as a man, a citizen, an educator and a priest. Jackson A. Graves made a notable address in wishing Bishop Glass godspeed. god-speed. In part he said' Bishop Glass, I do not say this to flatter you; I do not say it as a mere Idle thing to be said and forgotten; I say it in all earnestness that you go from this community with the respect, re-spect, the admiration and the lovn nf every human being acquainted with you All of them arc proud of you as a man, a citizen, as an educator and as a priest Dr. Norman Bridge said Wo are here to tell the people, of Salt Lake that it was not Rome that discovered Bishop Glass, but that his neighbors discovered him long ago. Bishop Glass was designed by nature for a great part in the world, Others who spoke in admiring terms were George S. Patton and John G Mott. Bishop Glass. In response, said I have learned to admire your great citizenship, the courage and devotion that have built up this city. But through It all I have seen something of a higher nature than your material ma-terial achievements. I have beheld your spirit. No matter how splendid the people peo-ple to whom I am going may be, I shall not look-upon your like there. I have met you here and there as the years flew by and I have watched your efforts. There is one word that characterizes tho citizens of Los AngelesIt An-gelesIt is broadness. The fact that you are of some other walk of life has not prevented you from being my friends. |
