Show oo CLARK GETS THE BEST OF FIGHT Pittsburg. Sept. 2. Jeff Clark of Joplin, Mo., the "Fighting Ghost," and Joe Jcannette of Hoboken, N. J. aspirant for championship laurels met here In a six round bout today. Popular opinion gave the fight to Clark. Clark weighed 1C3 1-2 and .Teannette 198 1-2 pounds. Tho first round was even. Both exchanged rights and lefts to body. .Teannette, had a shade the better of the second round, putting hard lefts to face and repeating many times as i he backed Clark into a corner. Clark landed several blows to the stomach, but was bleeding at the mouth when jne round ended. Clark had the third round. Apparently ho hit at will. Jeannette, distressed, warned Clark for hitting at breakaways and said he would use similar tactics. As they broko Clark shot three lightning blows to Jeannette's body. Joe retaliating retal-iating with two lefts to the face. Clark was quick and in the mixup Joe lauded several light blows. In the fourth, ' Clark seemed to punch Jcannette when he pleased. Jeannette turned the tables In the fifth round, although Clark rocked his head with a hard left to the jaw. Joe hit him frequently and played for the stomach. He sent smashing blows to body and face as tho round ended. Both were breathing hard when tho sixth round opened. Clark landed left and right to Jeannette's jaw, as the clinch onded Clark retreated and a moment later vent to his knees, after Jeannette landed hard rights and lefts to the jaw. Joe attempted to land on the kidneys but was blocked, Clark getting a right and loft to body and three blows to Jeannette's Jean-nette's face. He repeated as the round ended with the crowd yelling the praise of Clark. |
