His Hl first day's trip took him Into Con- nocticut and Massachusetts. Then he H turned westward. He was greeted at H overy stop today by large crowds. H Colonel RooBevelt discussed Social. H Ism, one of Woodrow Wilson's H speeohes, the tariff and the weather. H He spoke feelingly of the weather H He made hie speeches standing barc- H headed In the rain. H The colonel announced his belief H ' that the national goernment should H ' help lighten the expenses of political H i campaigns. He declared himself also H ' In favor of control of Insurance com- H panies by the national government H and said school houses should he H used for political meetings and for H polling places. He continued: H "It ought not be necessary for the H , parties to hire buildings In which. Hl their candidates are to speak.
