Show oo SHIPS GYPSUM NORTH OF OGDEN General Manager William Porter Payne of the Jumbo Plastor &. Cement Ce-ment company of Siguard, Sevier county, Utah, spent yesterday afternoon after-noon aiid a part of today in tho city conferring with ccmoni peoplo regarding re-garding tho sale of gypsum which Is used In the manufacture of cement. Mr. Payne states that tho plant at Siguard is one of the largest in the western country and thnt tho company com-pany Is selling large quantities of tho material. Tho company not only handles gypsum In Its crude form, but It also manufactures cement and plaster for building purposes. Two or throe carloads of tho product Is being sihlpped each week. Speaking of railroad facilities and rates, Mr. Payne", relates an Interesting Interest-ing discrimination. His shipments paso over the Denver & Rio Grande railroad, Ogden being the northern terminus of that road. Ho has no difficulty In making a transfer north from Ogden over the Oregon Short Line but ho cannot get a rato that will Justify shipping over tho Union Pacific to Devil's Slide. The rate over the Union Pacific from Ogden to tho coment plant in Wober canyon can-yon for his product is virtually prohibitive pro-hibitive and yet the distance Is short. Mr. Payne rosldos at Richfield, tho homo town of Judge Chldcster. and o states that tho judge will go to the Btato Republican convention with a strong following for tho nomination for congress. He thinks Richfield Is safoly Republican this year and that In all likelihood Chldcster will lo tho nominee for congress. Tho mon of the south, he says, would like to sco some ono othor than Howell placed on the ticket from the north part of the state. |
