There was a remarkable array of legal talent representing both sides of tho case The prosecution Is represented repre-sented by County Attorney I. E Wll-ley, Wll-ley, Asst County Attornoy J. F Bowman, Bow-man, Judge H. E Booth, United States district attornoy, and Stato Sonator CarL ABa'dger. Judge W. H. Dickson represented MMr. Lowe, Attorney At-torney H A. Smith represented R. M Perkins. Willard Hanson and T S. Minol of San Francisco represented May, Scott and McAllister, and Attorney Attor-ney Russell G. Schulder was associat ted with Judgo Dickson Immediately after the case was called Attorney Smbith filed a demurrer demur-rer to the complaint, contending that the alleged facts set forth did not constitute a cause of action and, further, fur-ther, that the comnjajnt alleged three separate and distinct charges. A similar sim-ilar demurrer was filed by Attorney Willard Hanson in behalf of his client, cli-ent, Mr. Smith argued tho, demurrer demur-rer at considerable length and during the discussion Judge Booth, County Attorney Wllloy, Judge Dickson and Attorney Schulder were heard. - Attorney Smith contended that the complaint was not drawn according to the provisions containod In tha statutes and that the complaint was "a conglomeration of alleged facts and no human being could possibly undorstand what he was charged with.' i Plead Not Guilty. Judge Booth maintained, that the complaint was good and that it was necessary to state all the facts alleged al-leged to establish a basis for this prosecution. Many knottv legal questions ques-tions wore fired back and forth between be-tween counsel and at the conclusion of the argument on the demurrers, Judge Whltaker overruled the motion pro forma and said he would take tho matter under advisement.
