Show ACCIDENT TO BAMBERGER POWER A Corliss engine in the power plant of the Bamlxjrger Hue at Lagoon "ran away" yesterday afternoon, breaking the largo flywheel and delaying traffic traf-fic on the Bamberger line for forty-five forty-five minutes The damage done to tho engine and the power plant was between $5,000 and ?C,000. Tho engine had only recently boon Installed in tho new power plant and was halng Ms trial run. The twin onglne worked well but tho goernor failed to work properly and the engine en-gine started to "ran away." The en- gineer became frightened and emula- ' ted the example of the engine by run- ning away. The great flywheel Increased Its speed to such a terrific rate that it flow to pieces. ' Largo pieces of tho flywheel were thrown through tho roof ofothe power house and crossed the wires which furnished the power for tho Bamberger electric line. This J caused a suspension of. traffic for a i short time. There were several employes of the power plant in the building at the time of the accident, but all escaped Injury. Some of the employes shut off the power Immediately after tho flywheel was torn to pieces and pro-vented pro-vented further damage The flywheel was a large and expensive one and the damage to the plant and tho building build-ing was serious. It will probably take several weeks to repair the damage. As this was only a trial run for the new power plant the electricians quickly cut over to the transmission j lines of tho Tellurldc Power company ' from which the railroad has been securing. se-curing.
