Show TRUANT OFFICER ENFORCING LAW The truant offlcerof the Ogden City schools is making a vigorous campaign against those who are remaining re-maining out of schooh It will be necessary nec-essary hereafter for all boys and girls who have not finished the eighth eigh-th grade, to continue with their studies, stu-dies, unless they can secure a permit per-mit from the superintendent of schools, who is the only person authorized au-thorized to grant permits, and he is limited by law in this matter. He cannot, can-not, for any excuse whatsoever, ex-copt ex-copt sickness, grant an excuse to a child of able bodied parents. Ho may permit a child to remain out If that child has an Invalid father and tho child's services are needed to earn the living. Ho is also permitted to grant an excuse to a child who has a widowed mother, unable to provide for her children. Those who employ child labor should look carefully Into this question, and allow no one In thoir employe who is not above sixteen six-teen years of ago. There is a fine provided against any one who employs em-ploys child labor without a permit, amounting to $25 to $200, with from ten to thirty day's Imprisonment.. Following are a few sections from the chapter on the Child Labor Lav, and it Is the Intention of tho school officers to follow vigorously a campaign against the breaking " of theso laws: Employment certificate An employment em-ployment certificate shall be Issued only by the Superintendent of Schools or by a person authorized by him In writing or where there Is no superln-1 tendent of schools, by a person authorized au-thorized by tho School Board; provided provid-ed that no member of a school board or other person authorized as aforo-said aforo-said shall have tho authority to issue such certificate for any child then In or about to enter such person's own employment or tho employment of a firm or corporation of which he is a member, officer or employee, provided pro-vided that no fauch certificate fllmll be issued until the person issuing the same shall have received, examined exam-ined and approved tho school record of such child. Inspectors or truant officers Apy authorized inspector or the truant officer of-ficer shall make demand on any cm- ployer about whose placo or establishment establish-ment a child, apparently under the age of fourteon years is employed, or permitted or suffered' to work, and require re-quire such employe to furnish him within ten days satisfactory evidence that such child Is in fact ovor fourteen four-teen years of age, or shall cease to employ or permit or suffer such child to work In such faotory. In any prosecution brought therefor ..Penalty Whoever, employs any child, and whoever having under his control as a parent, 'guardian, or otherwise, oth-erwise, any child permits, or suffers such child to be employed or to worlc in violation of any of the provisions of this act, shall for such offense, ba fined not less than $25 00 nor more than $200 00, or be imprisoned for not less than ten days nor more than 30 days, or both, in the discretion of tho court |
