Show FRUIT A! SHOW WILL BE SOLO Exhibits Will Remain in Place, However, Until the Last Day of the Big- Fair. The splendid fruit to be exhibited at the Four.Stato fair will, be on sale throughout the show. Purchases may bo" made at any time, but the exhibits exhib-its cannot be touched until tho last day of the fair. This fruit show will offer a rare opportunity to buy the finest of Utah-grown apples, peaches, pears, grapes and melons. The fruit show at the fair this year will occupy moro space than over. Entries In this department were made early, and are still pouring In at fair headquarters. The judges in making their awards will consider tho value of tho varieties for their required purpose, the color, size and evenness of specimens, the apparent carefulness In handling, and tho tastefulness or the exhibiL All blemished fruit will ibe discounted by the Judges. Any fruit showing scab, rot, scnle, worm holes or the work of any Insect or disease, will be harred from competition The prizes hung up in the frulL grain and vegetable department amount to nearly $1,200. Originality will be the first consideration con-sideration In judging the exhibits in the fine arts department, which will be in charge of Fred Massa, the well known Ogden artist No award will be made in this department when, in tho opinion of tho judge, tho article is worth less than the premium, although al-though It mav be the beat of Its kind exhibited. A number of local artists aro arranging ar-ranging exhibits for this department, among them bolng Frank Matthews, who has studied in tho east with marked success. Mr. Matthews has in his collection of drawings some works from life that should carry off the blue ribbons. The fair association has sent out letters to the various concerns in Ogden Og-den owning big work horse teams, asking them to boost the work horse parade, which will take place on Monday Mon-day afternoon, September 25. Replies to these letters Indicate that there will be a splendid showing of well-kept well-kept animals in the parade, which Is a new feature of the fair this year. This feature 'has become prominent In the large fairs on the continent, and as liboral prizes are awarded It brings out practically eery work team in the city and surrounding country Each team in this parade "is to be hitched to the vehicle that It is accustomed to, such as dump wagons, wag-ons, lumber wagons, brewery wagons or wheel scrapers and moing vans Competent Judges,, will be selected to make the awards, when the parade comes to a halt at the fair grounds after covering tho principal streets in the business section of tho city. The awards wijl be made on a basis of fifty per cent for the horses and fifty por cent for appointment, such as harness, wagon, proper dreBB of teamster, etc. Each teamster in the parade will be given a season ticket good for th balance of tho fair For the best team appointment the first prize is $40 00; the second, $30 00, tho third, $20.00, tho fourth, $10 00 and the fifth, ?5 00 For the driver handling the best mannered pair in this class, "the first prize is $10 00 and the Bec-nd Bec-nd prize, $5.00. |
