Show H BETTER AUTOMOBILE ROAD. H Secretory Brummitt of tho Chambor of Commerce has received H a letter from Bandy Ballinger, secretary of the Chamber of Com- H merce of Laramie, Wyoming, pointing out the necessity of Ogden H and other cities along the central transcontinental automobile route H co-operation to prevent the diverting of tho tourist travel to the H southern route. H In his letter, Secretary Ballinger calls attention to the stren- H nous efforts being made to send automobile parties south from H Denver, instead of allowing them to proceed west through Wyoming H and Utah. H "Denver's good roads commissioner "writes mo," says Secretary H Ballinger, "that 6,0,00 auto tourists visited tliat city last year and H tho number is expected to be increased to 15,000 tin's season It is H estimated that each four-passenger car leaves $20 in each citj H -where It stops over night. You can readily see that the business is H assuming great importance. H "Last fall a number of ears stopped at Laramie on their way H back from the Pacific coast and reported that they had been turned H south at Denver by the misinformation that the New Mexico route H was in far the better shape. Such report was not true. H "This year we will do all we can to head off this southern ten- H 'dency, and one of the very best methods is to keep our roads in tho H best possible condition. Denver has promised to aid." H The first essential to success in holding the transcontinental Hj travel is to improve the roads in central and wc3teni Wyoming. Hl An equally important move is to prevail on the commissioners of H Box Elder county in this state to place the roads west of the Prom- Hl i ontory range in condition for automobiles to escape dangerous wn.sh- fl touts. H There are stretches of road in Nevada which should be im- m proved by the Nevada authorities. H There sliould be a conference of the commissioners and anto- H mobile enthusiasts of every county in Wyoming, Utah and Nevada H and the meeting should be held in Ogden, which is centrally situ- H atcd. At this conference plans should be perfected for united ac- Hl tion in making the central automobile highway most attractive. |
