Show jj EDUCATIONAL REVENUE. Senator S. J. Stookey Again Presents Bill Covering Subject. In order to give the University of Utah, the State Agricultural college and tho State Normal and Its brnnches greater scope in their maintenance, Senator S. J. Stookey Intends to present pre-sent a bill during the present session that will do away with the biennial appropriation. The law as at present outlined, will call for the usual appropriation ap-propriation for buildings and Improve-1 ments. but will give the institutions a certain percentage from the taxes each year. By tho proposed method a more elastic means of mainlennnce can be secured. It Is declared that It will be of greater benefit to tho educational educa-tional Institutions, as they will know just how much they can depend on each year instead of bciug compelled to wait for the legislature to meet every ev-ery two cars. A similar bill was preseuted two years ago by Senator Stookey, but as It was late In the session it was thought better to allow It to go over to the present session, when It could bo morfc fully discussed. Several changes will be made in the present proposed bill that will make it stronger strong-er than the other. The measure will be sort of an experiment ex-periment that If successful, can be made to apply to other Institutions of learning in the"statc. Tho appropriation appropria-tion each session Is declared to be quite unsatisfactory under tho present system. By means of a maintenance measure it is declared that the needs of each year could bo better cared for. |
