Show EMCELLENT CAST FOR ELKS' SHOW Last night the first rehearsal or the Elks' show, "The College Pennant," was held in the clubrooms, and many pleasant surprises wore in store for the cast and the management. As the Wlks know, "The College Pennant" comes to Ogden very highly high-ly recommended, but it was not expected ex-pected to contain so many real catchy musical numbers, interwoven through such a strong plot. It is a production j, exceptionally strong in &11 the essential features that go to make up a successful musical mu-sical play. The plot is sufficiently deep and convincing to make a. first-class first-class performance were the musical numbers entirely eliminated. But Mr. Brown, the writer and director di-rector of the play, was not satisfied with a piece that Is simply "good enough," but went far beyond this, and wrote a musical score which we doubt has been excelled by any musical music-al comedy heard in this city. In speaking of songs in musical shows, the term "catchy and tuneful" have been applied to anything that was singable, but in this particular Instance tho term can be used with its full meaning. The melodies are decidedly de-cidedly original, very effective in style and of a high class. Tho Elks' committee ln charge or the production are Jubilant over the play and the cast and chorus that has been selected. |
