Show M i . MAKING VINEYARDS OUT OF DESERT H ( Advices from Imlay, Nevada, toll of a most important industry H l Avhicli lias been started in that'scction of the Sagebrush state. The 'I Mi, new industry is that of grape raising. A recent dispatch from Lovelock says: "A colon' of thirty Indians, recently from California, have settled set-tled in Buena Vista valley, some fifteen miles southeast of Imlay, and it is their intention to go into the grape raising business on a very large scale. Altogether there arc 100 settlors and the section where they have located, which only a short time ago was a barren waste of desert, is now dotted with homes and is being made to bloom. "Already two carloads of grape slips have been received at Imlay aud they have been hauled to Buena Vista valley and planted. plant-ed. Several small gasoline engines have also been taken to the settlement set-tlement and these will be used in pumping the water for irrigating purposes. There is plenty of water near the surface and it will be an easy matter to supply the small amount necessary for the culti" vation of the grape vines. The soil and conditions generally in Buena Vista valley are adaptable to grape raising and there is little lit-tle doubt but that the new enterprise will be a success. The grape industry has been tried successfully in Ogden during dur-ing the past five years. i |
