Show SPIRIT SHOWN IX WAR ZONE Dr. George Sherwood Eddy, a Y. M. C. A. war work secretary, speaking speak-ing of the spirit of the men in the trenches "over there," tells this story: "Up in the front line trenches a shell fell. In an instant twenty men were doomed to death or mangling, when quick as a flash, quick as thought, a man, a former football player, threw himself on the shell, and gathered te himself a hundred deaths. There was a report and when they picked up what was left of him, twenty-two wounds blown through one leg, thirteen through the other, yet nineteen men were without a scratch or bruise because one man gave himself for them. "That is the spirit of the men over there. Have we that same spirit at home? It is the spirit that will win the war and make the world safe for democrarcy." |
