Show MINERS VILLE NOTES Players from Parowan, under the management of Mrs. Luella Clark, presented "The Gambler" here last Saturday night, scoring a decided success. The presence of Alfred Morris, last year a tenth grade student stu-dent here, as a member of the company, com-pany, added to the local interest in the production. The presentation was a credit to all concerned. The two orchestras of the high school gave an enjoyable surprise party for their instructor, Miss Edith Axtens, on Thursday night of last week. Wood's Hall was decorated for. the occasion with red, white and blue streamers. After an evening of dancing and games, ice cream was served at a table also decorated in the national colors. The children of the elementary school have raised over thirteen dollars dol-lars of their membership in the Junior Jun-ior Red Cross through the sale of popcorn balls and molasses candy at school. Under the directions of Miss Martha Meldrum the upper grades of the school made up the materials brought by the children, and conducted the sale. One of the most successful parties of the year was given last week when the Parents' class of the L. D. S. Sunday school gave a party to all the parents of the town. A large number num-ber of the parents attended and joined heartily in the games and stunts of the program. These included in-cluded games and contests of all kinds, from Japanese tag to an exciting ex-citing and ludicrous race in which Frank Williams and Jim Rollins made three successive changes of costume and had to run in them even though It involved high heeled slippers or entangling skirts. After the games, ice cream and cake were served, and a program of music and talks was presented. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Mart Sherwood on February 19. The primary of the Minersville L. D. S. ward gave a dance and supper last Friday night to raise money for the Red Cross work. A quilt made by the organization was also raffled off, the winner being Mrs. Lucy Osborne. Os-borne. The amusement committee of the local high school is making elaborate preparations for a spring dance, to be given on March 2, to raise money for the Junior Red Cross membership. member-ship. This, how-, ever, will include admission to refreshments. re-freshments. A program Is to be given while the refreshments are being be-ing served. A "fishing pond" will also be conducted for the benefit of the Junior Red Cross. |
