Show o CINCH THE DOG OWNERS THERE is an ordinance requiring dog owners to pay a tax on dogs. We are told that there are dozens of dogs in Milford claimed by citizens who pay no tax on their usually worthless pets. There are sheep dogs in service in the sheep herds that are useful. The owners of such pay the tax willingly generally. It is manifestly unfair for the man who pays the tax to allow the other fellow to keep his pet curs around without paying the required tax. Then there is the item of economy and food conservation. A dog eats nearly as much as a man and nine cases out of ten returns -no service for his keep. As Collier's says, the love and companionship companion-ship of the dog is service enough often times. But if that service is worth any- . thing why not pay the tax which has already al-ready been levied. Some pay. We ought either to repeal the law or enforce it. That is an opportunity for the city marshal mar-shal 'to make a showing for his salary. |
