Show IT KICKED HIM AT the naval training station on Goat Island, San Francisco, boys are arriving ar-riving for a term in the navy who have never seen the ocean. They enlisted in that branch of the service in order to "get quick action." On the island they make the Navy Y. M. C. A. their headquarters head-quarters and frequently amusing stories are told about them. Recently a lad named Pete Collins arrived from Wyoming. He had never seen the ocean and had never become acquainted with a navy hammock. As that is what the sailors sleep in he was soon to have his first experience. The first night Pete climbed into the strange bed and as promptly fell out. He made a second attempt and rolled clear over. He asserts that the thing kicked him for when he - struck the ground he cut a long gash in his head and was taken to the hospital. There he found a cot ready for him and as he sank to rest he remarked that the gash was worth the comfort of a real bed again. And he has yet to see the ocean. |
