B. Shepherd, associate dairy husbandryman of the bureau of dairy Industry, in Lenflet No. 10-L, "Care of the Dairy Cow at Calving Time," just Issued by the United States V apartment apart-ment of Agriculture. Proper management at this time, says Mr. Shepherd, means more livlug calves, fewer sick cows, and better chances for a lunger period of greater milk and butterfat production. It Is important that the cow be handled at this time so as to prevei ' Injury, t! ' she receive a feed ration suitable to her condition, and that she be r rer-ly rer-ly cared for at calving time. A small pasture conveniently located makes an ideal calving place in warm weather. weath-er. At other seasons, the best place is in a roomy box stall free from drafts, thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, disinfect-ed, and well bedded with straw, shavings, shav-ings, or other suitable material. It is ill to stanchion fl? heifers with the milking herd for two or three months before th.-y are due to calve. They will be easier to handle later.
