Show o ONE WAY OUT Statistics show that most people are honest and pay their bills eventually. In good times long drawn-out payment is not harmful harm-ful to business. Enough cash is flowing in to permit the average merchant to take care of his own account and wait for the "slow pay." In sub-normal times, however, the situation is different. Merchants are not bankers. They buy for cash and take the ordinary or-dinary trade discounts when they can. They try to do business honestly, efficiently and with full value. But they cannot do so if buyers abuse the credit privilege. The prompt payment of bills is one way out of a depression. It will save retail merchants millions mil-lions of dollars in operating expenses and make possible the further cheapening of prices in line with price declines in the wholesale markets. It should be practiced by all who accept credit cre-dit as a moral as well as a business matter. Pay bills promptly, or pay as much as you can on them as often as you possibly can and you'll be surprised how quickly the clouds of depression will disappear from the business skies. r |
