Show Pioneer day celebration plans outlined for area residents II Plans for the annual Cedar City July 24 Celebration have been announced by Gerald Stoker and II Evelyn Jones, co-chairpersons of the event. Mr. Stoker is the Cedar West Stake High Councilman for the APMIA and Mrs. Jones is president of the Stake APMIA Young Women's organization. This year Cedar West Stake has responsibility for the celebration. The proceeds from the concessions and games to be held during the day at the Cedar City Park will go tward further development of the Evelyn Webster APMIA Girls Camp. Each LDS Ward has appointed a chairperson to supervise ticket sales, which will be conducted prior to July 24 through a canvass of each ward. Tickets will also be on sale the day of the event. The pre-sale will facilitate faster service for those participating in the many activities in the park. Chairperson for the July 24 parade is LaRue Morris, president of the APMIA Young Women in the Cedar City Thirteenth Thir-teenth Ward. Theme for the parade is "The Saints, Builders of Nations." , Each LDS Ward in the city has been asked to enter two floats in the parade and each stake organization will be expected to enter at least one float, according to Mrs. Morris. In addition to LDS Church organizations, the parade , committee is asking all groups or individuals in the community who might be interested to provide an entry for the parade. This would include all church denominations, bands and marchinggroups, riding clubs, business firms, clubs, civic organizations and individual horsemen. Others who have been invited to participate are company members of the Utah Shakespearean Festival, Cedar City Fire Department, National Guard, Sheriff's Jeep Patrol, groups from the Summer Recreation Program, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Explorers, Ex-plorers, Little League, Pony League, and American Legion Baseball Clubs. All floats and groups should be registered by July 22 through informing a member of the parade committee. A number will be assigned to each group, but each participant will make their own number. The number should appear on the front and each side of the entry in black letters on 8V2 by 11 inch paper. The committee should be informed in-formed of the entry title as soon as possible even though the float or group is not fully organized. The parade will assemble at the Cedar Stake House parking area and adjacent streets between bet-ween 8:30 and 9:20 a.m. on July 24. The parade will start promptly at 9:30 a.m. and will travel down Main Street to the City Park. Floats will not line up in order of numbers, but by convenience. The parade will be led by the National Guard carrying the American Flag, followed by a band, marching group, and then the stake presidencies and other dignitaries and wives. Other groups and floats will follow. Riding clubs and horses will be last." " Prizes to be awarded for winning entires include $30 for first place, $20 for second place, $10 for third place, and $5 for fourth place. All entries will be judged on beauty, originality of theme, and, work involved. Parade committee members are: LaRue Morris, Karlynn Neilson, Laurene Adams, Therol McArthur, and Bessie Dover. |
