Show Survey reveals Utahns slowing down to 'save' Results of a survey made this past week by Utah Highway High-way Patrolman EIRoy Mason In cooperation with KBRE Radio Indicates that residents of the state of Utah are heeding Governor Gov-ernor Calvin Rampton's request that motorist voluntarily reduce their speed to help in the efficient effic-ient use of gasoline. Earlier this month the governor gov-ernor asked Utah travelers to travel at or below 60 miles an hour, or ten miles below the legally posted speed limits. In a summary of the survey Trooper Mason Indicated that it appears that most of the cars traveling above the requested 60 miles per hour were out of state vehicles. It appears that a majority of the Utah vehicles were traveling at or below the Governor's suggested 60 miles per hour speed limit. Average speed of all cars checked was 60 miles per hour. A total of 100 cars were surveyed sur-veyed In the radar check. The results were as follows: Twenty-five percent were traveling at or above the maximum max-imum speed of 70 miles per hour. A high percentage of vehicles, veh-icles, 73 percent, were traveling at or below the Governor's suggested sug-gested 60 miles per hour speed. Thirteen of the 100 cars and trucks checked were traveling between 40 and 49 miles per hour; 22 were moving at 50 to 59 miles pere hour and 40 were cruising at 60 to 69 miles per hour. The check wag made on Interstate In-terstate Highway 15 five miles south of Cedar City. One man cited for traveling at 85 miles per hour said he hadn't heard about the Utah campaign to drive slower and save gas. He was motoring from St. Louis, Mo. |
