Show ROLLO-glyphics that was the cause for Cedar City's move to provide land-fill garbage disposal facilities, as required by state law. .... Can't help but comment this week on the elimination of a real problem that has been remedied by the city this past week. The Improvement is the intersection inter-section on 100 West and 200 North Street For so many months, maybe years, the access ac-cess to and from 200 North to 100 West to the south has been a real headache, a jarring experience ex-perience to say the least Well this week the intersec-tlon intersec-tlon was finally repaired eliminating elim-inating one of the really bad areas in the city's street system. sys-tem. A Job well done. Serious problems are In the process of developing unless the Iron County Commission takes some initiative. The problem is garbage disposal dis-posal and the problem is one of a county level and concerns, in this incidence, residents outside out-side the corporate area of Cedar City. Cedar City has endebted Itself It-self to a considerable amount to provide a land-fill garbage disposal area for the community commun-ity and the facility is being paid for by residents of the community. As a result, the City fathers have determined that those outside the city, those who are not being levied a tax to help pay for the facility should be charged a fee to use the land fill disposal area. Many residential areas have sprung up around the city that fall into this category and the fact that they have no facilities available for disposal purposes. At the time Cedar City was planning and developing their land-fill garbage system a county-wide program was proposed, pro-posed, but, never considered by the commission. Now these residents of the county have been turned down with proposals for the countylo provide such facilities or to levy taxes which In turn could help pay for the facilities currently being provided for Cedar City. What Is developing is that garbage from this area is being dumped indiscriminately 1 n various gullies and areas throughout the Cedar Valley area. The Iron County Commission needs to take a long look at this problem and come up with some kind of solutionpossibly solutionpossi-bly a cooperative solution to provide for the needs of these residents. While the commdsslon Is hiding hid-ing their heads In the sand, the problem is being compounded and is developing Into a situation situa-tion that is much more of a problem than the open burning |
