"I'm very impressed with the calibre of musicians attending SUSC band camp now and invite all interested students to participate in our band program," the new SUSC band director said. Band recruits can receive two college credits for attending at-tending band practice weekdays week-days between 3 and 5 p.m., and by performing in weekend band performances at home SUSC football games. "Another hour of college credit is available if students choose to perform with the SUSC concert band which practices each Thursday evening between 7 and 9 p.m.," he said. The general public is invited in-vited to participate in the concert band program which will begin rehearsals when school starts for the annual C hristmas C oncer t scheduled for early December. "You don't have to be a music major to participate in the marching band. Many students have been active in high school band programs and erroneously believe that they need to be music majors to participate in the college band program. This isn't so," Lamoreaux said. Students need not audition to enroll in the marching band program he said. Recruits are also needed for the band front. Students interested in performing as flag carriers and baton twirlers need not be experienced; ex-perienced; a full training program is being developed for these people. Two dozen flags are being constructed for band routines by Dr. Kathryn Berg, band front coordinator. coor-dinator. The SUSC Thun-derettes, Thun-derettes, under the direction of Nancy Stringham, will perform once again with the marching band. The new SUSC director of band is beginning his 19th year of band instruction this year. Lamoreaux most recently taught at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Blacksburg, where his all-men all-men marching bands were selected to march in the past two Presidential Inaugural Parades in Washington, D C. |
