Show y t Dixie Capitolizes on Redmen mistakes NS - f After a tough defense struggle for three quarters of play the host Dixie Flyers put 20 points on the board in the final period of play to post a convincing 26-0 victory vic-tory over ( the Redmen of Cedar High Friday night. It was homecoming at Dixie High School and an eventual and enthusiastic day for the Flyers. For Dixie it was their second victory of the season and their first in the Region Six 3A competition. For Coach Jim Dalton of the Redmen it was their fourth successive loss in Region action and the , most widespread. Going into the battle the Redmen held the point edge against mutual opponents in Region Six action. Scores first - RUNS FOR FLYERS. Brad Lindsey of the Dixie Flyers, 32, picks up yardage in this play against Cedar High School Redmen. In pursuit are Kevin Jones, 83 and David Ramos, 62. Flyers won contest 26-0. The score came with 4:09 left in the quarter and neither team could muster a drive before halftime. As a matter of fact both teams gave up the ball on mistakes, the Fjyers on a fumble and the Redmen on a pass interception. in-terception. Third Quarter Strugle- It was in the third period that the Flyers began to take over domination of the game with the surge coming following another Redman miscue' a fumble on the Flyers 42. From that point the Flyers began a drive that gave them a first and goal at the three with a Ence to Doug Dean pass on a fourth held. Next the Redmen went to the air and had a pass intercepted on their own 44. A "face mask penalty moved the ball to the 26. Ricky Ence moved to the 23 but the Flyers fumbled on the next play and the Redmen recovered on their own 18. A offensive pass interference call moved the Redmen back to the 9, quarterback Dave Edwards was nearly sacked for a safety at the one and on the next play the Redmen fumbled turning the ball over. Dixie pushed in another score on a one yard shot over the middle and Ence found Crain Seegmiller in the end zone for a two point conversion. Another Turnover- With less than two minutes remaining the Redmen were again forced to punt and a bad snap made it impossible to get the punt away and the Flyers had the ball on the Redmen 22. Ence fumbled but recovered on the first play, Kent Laidlaw went nowhere on the second and with a third and 16 Ence again went to the air. This time it was Seegmiller who caught the pass for a first down on the 12 after it had been tipped by a Redman defender. Three plays later Dixie had again scored on a four yard plunge with just 1:33 remaining. Both clubs mustered drives in the first quarter of play but neither could penetrate the others goal line. The Flyers took the opening kick and marched 39 yards to the Redmen 29 before Roger Seegmiller broke through and threw quaterback Chuck Ence for a loss to stop the drive. After an exchange of punts the Redmen took over on their own 44 but were penalized back to the 31 where they began a drive that carried to the Flyers 14 yard lirie-47 yards in all. The Dixie ' forward wall stiffened on the Redmen 22 forcing Cedar to a fourth and 10 situation at that point. The Redmen ' faked a fieldgoal attempt and pitched pit-ched to Mark Jones on an end around. Jones was caught in the flat by the single defender between he and the gaol line 14 short of the first down.1 Trade Fumbles The Flyers fumbled early in the forth period deep in Redmen territory for the first major break of the game but on the subsequent play the Redmen mishandled mishan-dled a pitchout and the Flyers had regained possession on the Redmen 34, At that point the Flyers, with Ence directing the attack,, and i the running tf .-running .-running back Brad Lindsey drove 66yards for a score with 14 plays and a time lapse of approximately 7 minutes. Ence scored from the one on a 'keeper but the big gainer was a 16 yard pass play from Ence to Rainey to set up a first and goal on the three. and 16 situation possibly the biggest play of the series and the entire game. The catch came on the three for the first and goal and although Dean was injured and saw no further action his task had been accomplished. On the final play of the third quarter the Flyers drove to the one and two plays into the period the Flyers had again scored with Lindsey hitting off tackle.
