California-Pacific seeks rate increase Two new rate increase applications filed by California-Pacific Utilities Company before the Utah Public Services Commission will be heard in public meetings in Cedar City next month, according to a PSC aide. UPSC auditor Mike Earl said the two applications ask for an additional $1,527,950 in revenue, a 27.9 percent increase, mostly to offset additional charges made by Utah Power and Light to Cal-Pac. The first application, Earl said, asks for an 18.5 percent increase to establish a balancing account to handle the monthly fuel adjustment charges made by UP&L.Earl said UP&L has an application ap-plication before the Federal Power Commission to increase the rates of their "sale for resale" wholesale power, which prompts the applications. UP&L's increase and Cal-Pac's subsequent increase, if granted, are then interim type increases, subject to the federal hearing, he explained. The second CPU application, he said, asks for $515,610 or 9.4 percent, as a "pass through increase" to offset the increase of powers cost from UP&L. Both applications were made the final week of August, Earl said. District manager and Cal-Pac Vice President Pete Paris said tentative scheduling shows the local hearings .being held on October 18-19, although that date is subject to change. |
