Show SUSC Alumni Association Prestwich receives Service Award A Cedar City physician and longtime long-time supporter of Southern Utah State College has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the SUSC Alumni Association. Dr. J. S. Prestwich was named the 1978-79 recipient of the annual award at the alumni banquet held in conjunction con-junction with homecoming activities. Bruce H. Osborne, director of athletics at SUSC, read the award citation. Dr. Prestwich served on the board of trustees for SUSC (then -Branch Agricultural College) from 1941 - 49. "During that time, he worked long and hard to bring to this small campus programs that would add stability, security, and prestige to the college," Dr. Osborne said. The purchase of the College Farm west of Cedar City and the College Ranch up Cedar Canyon resulted from the doctor's efforts, Osborne said, as did the growth of livestock and sheep programs at SUSC. Osborne also noted his long-time support of community programs and of SUSC athletic programs. "For years, it was almost unkown for the college to pay a medical bill for an injured or sick athlete. Dr. Prestwich unselfishly donated his time and training to this cause," Osborne said. "Dr. Prestwich has been recognized by the Alumni Association for his contributions, service, and dedication to SUSC," James Joyle, Alumni President, said. "He has given SUSC and Cedar City a legacy of service and achievement that will long be remembered. We are honored to award him the Distinguished Service Award." im, .t ,lt: .
