Show UHP urges Careful Driving for a Sane and Safe Fourth The Utah Highway Patrol would like to remind you of the upcoming Fourth of July holiday and Operation CARE (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). This program was very suc- cessful in the reduction of ; traffic fatalities in Utah over this past Memorial Day holiday. I With this program the : cooperating states are ; unified in a comprehensive enforcement effort toward .' the high accident causation : factors such as speed, drinking and driving, ; following too closely, etc. As you travel over the Fourth of : July holiday you will notice : that this enforcement effort "will continue right across state lines as our surrounding surroun-ding western states, Nevada, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and Arizona, all are committed in this effort to reduce holiday traffic fatalities. The Utah Highway Patrol plans to especially patrol high accident areas within the state by increasing the number of officers to the maximum available. The patrol plans to increase the available field strength by canceling days off and temporarily reassigning personnel . to cover the problem areas. As Governor Scott Matheson stated at a press conference: "It is essential to your safety that you support the Utah Highway Patrol and the patrols of the surrounding states in this combined effort to reduce the holiday traffic fatality rate. As responsible drivers, I encourage you to take the affirmative step towards obeying the laws of the state of Utah and promoting a safe driving attitude." We need the continued cooperation of every driver. Turn on your headlights and a safe driving attitude once again for this 4th of July. Be aware - and put CARE in your holiday driving. |
