Show Complaints Issued by Attorney Seven criminal complaints have been issued by Cedar City Attorney Robert Braithwaitr naming employees em-ployees of convenience stores who allegedly sold beer to minors. According to Cedar City Police Detective Steve Warby, the complaints com-plaints are the result of an investigation in-vestigation into the availability of alcohol to local minors. Detective Warby explained that confidential informants, aged 17 and 18, made the beer buys under controlled con-trolled situations and without legal identification that could lead the store clerks to believe they were old enough to legally purchase beer. The Cedar City police report that the buys were a follow up on a study make several months ago that showed 13 of 15 stores tested selling beer to underaged juveniles. At that time the store owners and clerks were warned by the city attorney that tighter controls would have to be established and that future violations would result in criminal complaints being issued. According to City Attorney Robert Braithwaite, the seven clerks named in the complaints have been charged with the sale of alcoholic beverage to a miner, a class B misdemeanor that carries a possible penalty of six months in the county jail and or a $299 fine. The seven clerks charged with the stores in which they worked at the time of the alleged buys are: Susan Dalton, Centerpost; Pete Marker, E Z Shop; Sherry Elmer, Outpost; Kathy Kolbeck, Whiting Brothers; Ramona Edwards, Savemore; Dale McLeary, Color Country Husky; Charles Amador, Gas and Goodies. Mr. Braithwaite stated that if a clerk is convicted of the alleged sale, the city council would be asked to hold a hearing to review the matter. The city council could then render a decision whether to suspend the establishment's beer license and if so, for what length of time. |
