Show Book on Zion Flora off press Dr. Wesley P. Larsen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Zion Natural . Histroy Association is pleased to announce that the first comprehensive com-prehensive flora of Zion National Park has recently come off the presses. This 333 page book by Ruth Nelson with drawings by Tom Blaue was published by the Association as part of its continuing con-tinuing educational program of assisting visitors and locals to learn more about their national park. This book in both hard and ,. soft cover editions is available at the Zion Visitor Center. '" The book has been written and designed as an aid to both the professional botanist and the ; novice wildflower enthusiast. Plant specialists will find the dichotomous key and Latin nomenclature useful. Those unfamiliar with the local plant life can use the over 100 color photographs and 160 rendered drawings to help identify plants seen in the park. . Other aids include a section on blooming seasons, another covers common roadside flowers'' by season and color along with an illustrated glossary. Maps of the Park at the beginning and end of the book provide area orientation for locating places named in the text. Plants of Zion National Park is helpful over a much larger area than the title infers due to the great difference in elevation from the lowest point (at about 3600 feet at Coalpits Wash to the top of Horse Ranch Mountain at 8470 feet).
