Show Funeral services held at Newcastle for Geneva Gillies Funeral services were held Saturday, July 25 at the New Castle LDS Ward Chapel for Geneva Harrison Gillies, 82, who died of natural causes July 23, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kumen Gardner In Cedar City. Speaker at the services was Karl Harrison with a tribute by Shirley Hart. Family Fam-ily prayer was by D. Fred Gillies, Bp. Charles Hart conducted, con-ducted, and invocation was by Gordon Knell and the benediction bene-diction was by Clarence Butler. But-ler. Dedication of the grave at the New Castle cemetery was by Kumen Gardner. Musical selections included includ-ed a vocal quartet, singing "O My Father," and including Fred Gillies, Joseph Theiriot, Joseph Wendle and Wayne Gammette; a double trio consisting con-sisting of Georgia Harrison, Belva Gardner, Carma Beach-am, Beach-am, Luzon Forsyth, Edna Thorley, Kathryn Christensen, singing "Rest, Rest For The Weary Soul, and a vocal I trio, including Janice Olson, Gladys Isom and Joan Camp-, Camp-, bell, singing "To Sing Awhile." Prelude and postlude music was Vivian Knell. Mrs. Gillies was born November No-vember 5, 1887 a daughter of John Heber and Ellen Eld-ridge Eld-ridge Harrison. She married Robert Moroni Gillies Dec. 15, 1911 in the St. George Temple. Tem-ple. He passed away Sept. 21, 1954. Active in the ai'fairs of the Church she served as ward organist for New Castle Ward for 25 years. She held numerous num-erous teaching assignments including a Primary Trail Builder teacner lor 15 years and was secretary of the Relief Re-lief Society. A generous contributor to the New Castle Ward building fund, she was also a longtime long-time reporter for the Iron County Record. Survivors include a son, D. Fred Gillies, Las Vegas, Nev., and the following daughters: Mrs. Wm. B. (Kathorine) Simpson, Mrs. Max (Bonnie Jeans) Rigs, Las Vegas; Mrs. Clarence (Freeda) Butler, Tuscon, Ariz.; Mrs. Kumen Ku-men (Naida) Gardner, Cedar City; Mrs. George (Hope) Kib-bie, Kib-bie, Seattle, Wash. Also surviv. ing are 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. |
