Show Appeal madefor interchange near Parowan A request for a review by the Bureau of Public Roads in action regarding a proposed interchange on Interstate 15 near Parowan was made this week to F. C. Turner, Federal Highway Administration by John Volpe, secretary of trans-portation. trans-portation. Senator Wallace F. Bennett and Representative Sherman P. Lloyd, both R-Utah, had earlier appealed to Secretary Volpe: to further consider the requost for the Interchange at Parowan. In response to these requests Volpe indicated that "I am re. questing Mr. Turner to review with the bureau of public roads its action in regards to the state's request in light of the further information you have submitted." In the personal request, the two Utah legislators noted that, the.'.proposed interchange "would allow easy access to the recreational area located lo-cated near Parowan as well as acting as a stimulus to the 2conomy of the community." The Utah Republicans, in a 'oint letter to the secretary early this week, continued "as you are aware from previous correspondence local officials are prepared to accept the cost involved in maintenance of the present state roads to erve the area. This will result re-sult in a savings to the state road commission." They also indicated that tho project had been approved in a petition from the Five County Coun-ty Organization. "The interchange will be extremely beneficial for the convenience of residents in normal communications and traveling to appointments in addition to the economic boon it would be to southern Utah." They also noted that Parowan is the County seat making an interchange oven more vital. The two legislators indicated that they were very hopeful that the request for a second interchange at Parowan would be granted. |
