Show Sgbiw little league to vie for state title tonight Utah State Championship of the Senior Little League baseball program will be on the line here this evening, Thursday, when team.s frfom Cedar City and Sunset clash at the municipal diamond. Game time is set for 8 p. m., according to Vein Kupfer, president of the Cedar City league. Cedar City won the right to play for the championship by winning the District tournament tourna-ment held at Parowan this past week. The Cedar City crew defeated Richfield 10-1 and Parowan 10-2 for the district dis-trict crown and the right to enter the state finals. Sunset won a similar tour nament in District 2, representing repre-senting the northern portion of the state. Admission for the game tonight to-night has been set at $1, but a series of valuable merchandise merchan-dise prizes will be awarded to lucky ticket holders. Funds from the event will be used to help the local league operation, opera-tion, Kupfer stated. A four-pound sleeping bag donated by Ron's Sporting Goods and 15 gallons of gasoline gas-oline from Bradshaw Chevrolet Chevro-let will be among the prizes being offered. Winner of the Utah title will advance to a sectional tournament to be held at Las Vegas beginning Monday, Aug. 3. . ' '. .- i : Nolan Roberts was on the mound for Cedar City in their opening win against Richfield as the team battled their way to a one-sided victory. The only run for Richfield came on an overthrow at third base. In the championship game Saturday night against Parowan, Paro-wan, Cornell Christensen picked pick-ed up the mound victory. The Cedar team started slow with Parowan jumping off to a 2-0 lead on a home run in the first inning of play by Chris Bentley. In the fourth, Cedar City got into the scoring column col-umn and they wound up with 13 hits and 12 runs including home runs by Ron Adams and Nolan Roberts. |
