International ... 3 8 Canyonlands ... 1 9 Parowan Merc . .. 0 10 With less than two weeks of play remaining in the Cedar Senior Little League the battle bat-tle for the Championship is going right down to the wire with virtually four teams deadlocked in a tie for first place honors. State Bank is the team that threw the race into a four-way tie when they cam,e up with a 9-7 victory over California-Pacific, California-Pacific, then the league leaders. lead-ers. The Bank crew trailed through most of the contest but pushed in three runs on four hits to score the come from behind victory. The game was called at five innings on a time limit ruling. Steve Stoker was the winning pitcher pit-cher in the contest. Robert Shirts and Bab Piatt shared mound duty for the losers. Shirts also belted a home run in a losing effort. Southern Utah Mortuary hung in for a piece of the action ac-tion with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Cedar Glass in another top battle of the week. Smith, the lead Off man in the top half of the first inning reached first on a walk, moved mov-ed over to second on a walk and scored the only run of the game on a single by Lee Holmes. Hol-mes. Steve Hafen was the winner win-ner on the mound Brad Hunter Hun-ter suffered the loss. Utah Parks also stayed in th,e running with a close shave as they defeated Utah International 10 to 9 in two extra innings. Parks took an early lead 6-2 at the end of the fourth but International bounced back to knot the score at the end of regulation play at nine all. Neither team scored in the eighth and in the ninth. Meyers doubled and scored on a single by Chris Bishop for the winning run. Meyers and Bauer shared the mound Victory. Jeff Betenson suffered the loss. Cal.-Pac., meanwhile, scored a 15-2 win over Canyonlands and Southern Utah Mortuary with Hafen again on the mound defeated ParoWan Lions 6-3. In other action of the past week Parowan Lions scored a pair of wins over Parowan Merc, by scores of 7-1 and 15-10. 15-10. In the latter game Lamor-eaux Lamor-eaux was the winning pitcher and Mortensen and Bentley both homered for the Lions crew. In the first battle Mortensen Mor-tensen was the winning pit-cher pit-cher and also scored four of . the seven runs for his team. Del Rich Real Estate took a step up the ladder during the week with a pair of virtories. They defeated Canyonlands 22-6 and came on strong Monday Mon-day night to down Utah International In-ternational 10-6. Rick Rollo was the winning pitcher in both games. Jeff Paddock and Rollo both homered for the Real Estate crew in the win over Canyonlands. Brad Sch-mutz Sch-mutz suffered the loss. Utah International sent, Fred Wright, Baldwin and Betenson to the mound in the losing effort ef-fort and Mike Shaack homered in the losing cause. Top games remaining on the schedule pitted Cal.-Pac. against Utah Parks in Wednesday Wed-nesday action and Friday Parks will tangle with State Bank. Southern Utah Mortuary has Parowan Lions and State Bank remaining on their schedule. sche-dule. League play will end Friday, July 21. |
