Show CLAUDE'S by Claude Orton First Ralph Nader, the gov-ernment gov-ernment agent who continually continual-ly brings the American car makers into line on the various vari-ous weaknesses and faults they leave in their products, has General Motors, then Ford and then Chrysler on the carpet car-pet Maybe he really has come up with defects in the safety features of the cars, and maybe may-be his continual harrassment has saved and will yet save lives of some motorists. Now I wonder when he is going to call in the maker of the real cause of most moter car accidents, acci-dents, the maker of the nut behind the wheel? , It has sure been tough on the airplane hijackers during the past week. Three have been killed before they even had their ransom demand met. And the killing has been done through the cooperation of the plane's passengers. Perhaps Per-haps that is the way to do the job, arm the passengers instead in-stead of the law officers. The latter are not supposed to use their guns anyway, its against the law. Now maybe the civilian civ-ilian passengers will solve the hijacking problem, if the supreme court will keep its nose out of it. Well, the big 12-inch line to carry water from the city storage tank to the distribution distribu-tion system is in and in use. Aud, guess who was the first to find out how much the new line increased the water pressure in the system. To find out just ask Wood Decker Deck-er city works superintendent. It sure helped me with my lawn watering on the week end, but by then Wood had the pressure under control, I just had increased pressure in the pipe; Wood had increased water pressure in several places. ' Well, I read in the Milford newspaper where the west end of Beaver County got out-voted by the east end, and this apparently will result in the Beaver High school's getting the first gymnasium they contemplate con-template building in that county, if they do it the way the school board voted, with Minersville, going with the Beaver end, the Beaver high will get the first gym and the Milford High gym will ' come after the Beaver one is built and in use. Naturally the Milford residents didn't like the deal, and almost 200 of them were ip attendance at the meeting protesting the action, ac-tion, i Principal Ivan Rowley of the Beaver High says they will probably be using their new facility by the 1974 basketball basket-ball season. We hope the one at Milford will follow soon after that. We took a look at the new building going on at Brian head a week ago, and it seem3 ' it is moving right along. The four new condiminums started last fall on the north of the west side ski lift, are now about complete and new parts have been added to the Chalet Cha-let Village north of the condi-minium condi-minium complete. Then across the flat and to the south, a good start has been made on a condiminum there, the first for that area, with initial steps being started on two more. Perhaps resort manager Art Walunas was right when he said that accommodations there would reach the 3200 number inside of five years. I hope he is right and the ex-pansion ex-pansion program will move forward to reach that goal. Incidentally Art and his son Ed were on the job early on the morning of July 4 fur. nishing good music for the patrons of the First Ward breakfast ' on the city park, and when Art and his accordion accor-dion and Ed and his banjo furnish the music, it is al-ways al-ways good. Their offerings range for early 20th century numbers to the present time, and if you want the words with the music you can have it, or if you want to join in that is your privilege. And we understand they never up their prices; it i alway as much their pleasure as it is yours. |
