Show I Democrats urge youth to join in mass meetings Participation by young men and women in the 18-21 year age bracket in Democratic Party mass meetings on Monday, Mon-day, May 18th was urged by Rex E. Harris, Iron County Demorcatic Chairman. "The Democratic Party has long affirmed its support for lowering the voting age to 18 by including this matter in the party platform," Mr. Harris Har-ris declared. "Consequently I feel that encouraging young men and women of this age group to attend and participate partici-pate in mass meetings is in accord with accepted Democratic Demo-cratic party policy," he continued. con-tinued. "Unfortunately at the present pre-sent time, Utah laws and the Utah State Constitution prevent pre-vent people in the 18-21 year group from voting at mass meetings or from holding the position of voting district chairman, vice chairman and delegate. However, they can act as secretary, treasurer or committee members. In addition, addi-tion, their views and ideas on ssues, party policies am candidates will be welcomely received." Mr. Harris announced that a mass meeting of all Democrats Demo-crats would be held at 8 p.m. in the Cedar City Jr. High School Auditorium prior to District Meetings for all Cedar City Districts. Notices have been posted for meetings throughout the County. |
