Show City cleanup drive gets TV space, airport, recreation gets approval Parowan City and its cleanup clean-up program was featured on KSL-TV on Friday of last , week, through the efforts of the city administration and the work of students of Parowan Paro-wan High School, as they undertook un-dertook to clean up Main St. The TV men wore on hand during the day to take the pictures, and then they were flashed on the TV screen as a part of the 5 o'clock news, it was reported to the City Council at its Monday meeting.. meet-ing.. City officials commend the students for the fine job they did. In other action taken at the Monday session, the city submitted sub-mitted its plans to the State Aeronautics Board for the next phase (No. 2) of the project pro-ject for the improvement of the city airport. This phase will consist of graveling the landing strip and giving it an 1 oil seal coat. This phase may also consist of a fencing pro-gram pro-gram to enclose the airport. In connection with the city recreation program, Richard I Dotson met with the council to discuss the Little League baseball program for the summer. sum-mer. His request for funds to finance the program, in the !way of supplies, was approved. approv-ed. Dotson also stated that Parowan would have four Little Lit-tle League teams and two Senior little league teams this year and that Parowan will be host to the Senior League playoffs this summer. Applications for manager of the municipal swimming pool for this season were opened by Mayor Kendall O. Gurr, and Mrs. Gale Stolk and Mrs. Lowell Caldwell were appointed appoint-ed to manage that facility for the summer. Two interested citizens, Mrs Pearl Iloyle and Mrs. Mable MacDonald, met with the city council concerning the contemplated contem-plated project of placing curb and gutter on Center Street to the east edge of town. They were concerned with what might happen to the beautiful row of American elrri trees along the sidewalk at the T. Randall Adams home . They were assured that the trees would not be disturbed by the curb and guter project, if and when it goes. The council decided to purchase pur-chase a suitable camera for use by the city police in their line of duty. These men are to have the camera with them at all times when on duty. The policemen were also instructed in-structed to keep a watch on the Holyoak Lane, where two accidents have occurred recently. re-cently. It was also decided to put a fence around the new power substation at the Parowan Par-owan H.E. plant as a precau- tionary measure to keep trespassers, tres-passers, and especially children chil-dren from playing there. Elmer Mitchell was appointed appoint-ed as caretaker for the Parowan Paro-wan City Park for this summer, sum-mer, and is now on duty at that place. I |
