Show Redmen Initiate League Action In Weekend Play The Cedar High School Red-' men will move into league play Friday evening of this week when they travel to; Kanab to meet the Kanab Cowboys. For the Redmen, they have a pair of crucial games in their opening rounds of play as they meet first Kanab at Kanab then Dixie at Cedar the following week. Coach Richard Hobbs expects ex-pects his stiffest competition in the Southern Division of j Region Eight from those two schools and he hopes his crew is ready for the league competition. compe-tition. Game time Friday night is 8 p. m., and it will be preceded pre-ceded by a junior varsity game slated to get underway at 6:30 p. m. between the two schools. Til Jv v:""""n V The Cowboys have proven to be a tough team in pre-league pre-league play and they could make it extremely rough for the defending Region Champions Cham-pions in Friday night's action; and, as a matter of fact, against teams whom both have met should get the nod as favorites in the action. Kanab defeated the Rams, but not without a struggle as the two clubs were forced into overtime before the Cowboys could muster up the victory. That was Friday night. Saturday the Rams hustled the Redmen off the court to come up with a 69 to 63 win and led by as much as 12 points during the second half of play. Kanab will again be on their own court Friday night against the Redmen. The Redmen take a four win and four loss record into the contest and only one of those wins has been away from home. That was a vic-; vic-; tor, and a slim one at that, over the Beavers of Beaver. However, only one loss has been suffered by Coach Hobbs and his crew at the hands of a Utah school, with the other three suffered to Nevada teams, twice by Moapa High School and once by Boulder. The fourth loss was against Parowan Saturday. The Redmen in a pair of victories have shown an ex-I ex-I tremely well balanced scoring attack, but to this point it has not been consistant. In one game, against Panguitch, five Redmen were in double figures and a sixth man collected col-lected nine points. Expected starters for the Redmen will be Dale Hatch and Wade Roberts at the guard slots, Mike Pratt at center, and Kim Matheson and Wayne Esplin at forwards. In reserve for the Redmen will be Randy Clove, Randy Shirts and Eric Marshall at forwards, Ronnie Woolf at the center spot, and Harold Marshall. Mar-shall. Ned Lunt and Mike Leavitt at guards. |
