Show KCDR-FM Presents 'La Traviata' Opera Giuseppe Verdi's highly popular pop-ular "La Traviata" will be the fourth opera broadcast of the current season presented live, from the stage of the Metropolitan Metro-politan Opera House, and car-! car-! ried on KCDR-FM from the I College of Southern Utah. It I will be heard Saturday, Dec. ! 30 at 12 noon. Singing principal roles will be American soprano Anna Moffo as Violetta; American tenor John Alexander as Cap-fredo; Cap-fredo; Italian baritone Mario Sereni as Germont Fausto Cleve will conduct. During the first intermission "Opera News on the Air," the world-famous soprano Marie Cailas will be interviewed by Edward Downes. The second intermission will feature the popular "Opera Quiz." Facing quizmaster Downes will be Boris Goldowsky, well-known musicologist, Richard Mohr, a vice president of RCA Victor records, and Tony Randall, noted no-ted stage, screen and TV star. The subject of Francis Robinson's Rob-inson's "Biographies in Music," feature of the third intermission, intermis-sion, will be soprano, Marporie Lawrence. Verdi's "La Traviata," is based on Alexander Dumas's "La Dame aux Camclias," and h;is a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave. The Dumas play-was play-was very successful at the American movie "CamiHe," starring Greta Garbo and Robert Ro-bert Taylor. The opera was first heard on March 6, 1853 at tlie Teatro Le Fenice in Venice, Ven-ice, Italy. |
