Show Dixie Forest Cattle Advisory Beard Holds Annual Meeting The annual meeting of the Dixie National Forest Cattle Advisory Ad-visory board was held at Pan-Kuitcli Pan-Kuitcli Saturday, March I'ti, HKiti. Chairman Dean C. Clardner of St. Cicore presided with five of the ei'ht regular board members and three local association presidents present. The Dixie National Forest For-est was represented by Forest Supervisor Jack 13. Shumate, Staff Officer Max C. Green, lianjrers r.ruee Hronek and Mark Jones, and Assistant Hanger Bill Oo. The group first viewed a film explaining Forest Service range allotment analysis and management manage-ment procedures. Discussion of range improvement practices and techniques mentioned in the film followed. Supervisor Shumate told the group of East Fory Sevier Se-vier River water yield project activities and potentials. Rangers reported increased stocking would be permitted on five allotments al-lotments this year owing to additional ad-ditional forage resulting from range improvement work and better management of livestick. Advisory board members representing repre-senting individual ranger districts dis-tricts gave reports and presented problems and opportunities in range administration and improvement im-provement for discussion of the group. The advisory board was organized organ-ized and formally recognized in 1964. The first annual meeting under the new organization was held in March 1965. A special meeting was held in November 1965 to advise the Forest Supervisor Super-visor on commensurability standards stan-dards and special rules to issuance is-suance of new term permits. The board functions to (1) represent Dixie National Forest cattle permittees per-mittees in matter dealing with cattle range management and administration, (2) review and make recommendation proposed programs and policies which affect af-fect cattle grazing on the Forest, For-est, and (3) recommend programs or procedures for cattle management manage-ment on the Forest which cattle permittees believes to be justified justi-fied and desirable. Present board members and ranger district represented are Carl Harrison, Enterprise; Dean C. Gardner, St. George; Henry Carrol, Cedar City; Harold Sevy, Panguitch Lake; Vard Heaton, Powell; Prate Gates, Escalante and Don E. Taylor, Teasdale. A replacement has not yet been named for Van A. Wiley, former Circleville ranger district board member. At the March 26 meeting, officers offi-cers re-elected for 1966 were Dean C. Gardner, board chairman; Don E. Taylor, vice chairman, and Carl Harrison, secretary. Gardner and Taylor also represent the Dixie National Forest permittees on the Utah Cattlemen's Association Associa-tion Forest Advisory Board. |
