Show Lecture and Portrait by Kosa To Feature Sunday Program One of the West Coast's foremost portrait and landscape land-scape artists will be guest speaker s. the Sunday afternoon after-noon program of the Cedar City Spring Art Exhibit, on Sunday, April 19. He is Emil J. Kosa, jr. A special feature of the program will be the demonstration demon-stration of portrait painting to be given by Mr. Kosa. He requested that the art commit- tee select some prominent citizen for a portrait setting at the lecture lec-ture series. The artist will begin his lecture lec-ture at 3:30 p. m. and at 4 p. m. will start the portrait which he will turn back to the art committee. commit-tee. Following a meeting of the committee it was announced that Mary L. Bastow will serve as the model for the special performance. perform-ance. The committee further announced an-nounced that the portrait will be turned over to Dr. Royden C. Braithwaite, director of College of Southern Utah to be hung at that Institution. Mary L Bastow Miss Bastow was selected bv the commltte in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the development of art In this area. While serving as head of the art department at CSU, and through her association at the college, she has helped bring beauty to the entire area through her painting, interest In painting, home decorating and landscaping- Decision to give the palntine to the college was in further recognition recog-nition of the part the college has played in the development of art appreciation in the area and the support that has been given to the exhibit This Is the second in a series of three special programs. Opening Open-ing program was presented by Donald D. Wright, assistant professor pro-fessor in the department of fine arts at Utah State University at Logan. Metalsmithing Mr. Wright appeared Sunday, afternoon. April 1Z on the open ing day of the two-week long exhibit Hs demonstration of the ciafts ci metalsmithing and remarks re-marks pertaining to the craftsman, crafts-man, were well received by a large opening day attendance, j Exhibit is open each day from 9 a. m. to 10 p. m. except Sunday. Sun-day. Exhibit will be open on Sunday from 2 p. in. until 10 p.1 m. Mr. Kosa Is recognizd throughout through-out the art world for his fine work. He Is represented In a number of permanent collections collec-tions in this country Including the National Academy Ranger Collection, the Museum of Boston, Bos-ton, Art Institute at Michigan and New Britain in Deleware, Just to name a few. He has received numerous awards Including the Ranger, Purchase Award of the National Academy of Design. Bora in Paris Born in Paris, France, he was brought to the United States In 1907 and was naturalized in 1927. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts In Prague in 1921 and was a student of L'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and a student stu-dent at the California Art Institute Insti-tute In Los Angeles. Since 1920 he has been associated asso-ciated with the 20th Cc-i.tyry Fox Film Corporation and he has taught at the Otis Art Institute and the Chouinard Institute of Art. i The public Is cordially Invited to attend the special program and to visit the art exhibit at any time.
