Show County Chapter Of Red Cross Holds May Meet Iron County Chapter, American National Red Cross, held its monthly board meeting May 22, with McRay Cloward, chairman, conducting. Various reports of activities were made by the service ser-vice chairmen. Dallen Williams, chairman of First Aid, reported that a class in First Aid is starting for the Iron County Jeep Posse, with plans for two more classes to be taught very soon. Marion Murdock, chairman of Home Nursing, emphasized that new instructors in home nursing were Just completing classes for 48 women in Cedar City and the surrounding area. She stressed that some of the new instructors who Just received the Red Cross certificates for teaching classes are available to visit surrounding surround-ing communities for the purpose of conducting the valuable courses. These Instructors also offer services to schools If needed need-ed and teach without charge Home Nursing and Mother and Baby Care. Beverly Caldwell, Swimming and Water Safety chairman, reported re-ported that plans were In progress pro-gress to conduct a Red Cross life saving nnd swimming pro-ram pro-ram in the Cedar City pool this summer. In June, a special In- structor from the Pacific area of the Red Cross will be in Cedr City to train Instructors to become be-come qualified to teach swimming swim-ming and life saving to many age groups In our area. Dr. Cloward Clow-ard reported that the city recreate recrea-te n committee and the city council coun-cil have pledged their cooperation coopera-tion In supporting the program. The board went on record to support in every way possible a project of helping Iron County Sheriffs office to obtain diving equipment for trained men who might be used when tragedy in water occurs in the vicinity of Cedar City. Reed Bradshaw, chairman of Home Service, stated that a number of veterans had been helped the last few weeks in obtaining emergency leaves, furloughs, etc. Mrs. Merton Mitchell, chairman chair-man of the Home Nursing for Parowan, reported that there were two ladies qualified to teach and they are being encouraged to start a home nursing class In the near future. Ward Robb, treasurer, gave a financial report and Eula Gardner, Gard-ner, secretary to the board, reported re-ported the minutes, giving a number of previous projects and activities. Robert White, vice chairman of the board, was also present at the meeting. It was concluded that a general public meeting for June will be called where the financial report can be read and services for the Iron County chapter reviewed. The public is invited to hear the story of the Red Cross in Iron County at that meeting. |
