Show Last Rites Accorded Grace Matheson Burt Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Matheson Bart, 69, active LDS church worker in Parowan, were held Saturday at 2 p. m. in the First-Second Ward chapel. Mrs. Burt died Wednesday night from a heart p 'linen t while enroute by ambulance to the Iron County hospital. She had been in poor health for the past several weeks. The services were conducted by Bishop Gordon Farnsworth with Mrs. Dot Smith at the organ for prelude and postlude music. Speakers at the services were a nephew, Norman M. Adams and a brother-in-law, R. Taylor Miller, with remarks by Bishop Farnsworth. The Prayer at the home was offered by George F. Rowley, the opening prayer was by Joseph E. Ward, a brother-in-law, the benediction was by W. Leonard Evans, and the grave in the Parowan City cemetery, was dedicated by La ban Burt of Beaver, also a brother-in-law of the deceased. The musical program consisted of the opening song, "Sometime We'll Understand," by the Second Sec-ond Ward choir, directed by F. C. Van Buren, with Mrs. Smith at the piano; a vocal solo, "Calvary" "Cal-vary" by Verl E. Taylor, accompanied accom-panied at the piano by Barbara Jane Batt. and the closing song "Nearer My God to Thee." by a male quartet consisting of Rulan Dalton, E. Ray Lyman, Karl O. Mitchell and F. C. Van Buren with Mrs. Smith at the piano. Mrs. Burt was born in Parowan on Aug. 13, 1891, to David and Sarah Robertson Matheson, and spent her early life here and was educated in local schools. She was married to W. Gates Burt of Beaver on Nov. 15, 1909 and that marriage was later solemnized sol-emnized In the St. George Temple. Tem-ple. They resided in Beaver for a year after their marriage and then moved to Parowan, where tiiey have resided since, and she was active in LDS Church organizations serving as an officer offi-cer in the Relief Society, Primary and MIA organizations. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary on Nov. 15, 1959. Surviving are her husband, and five sons and daughters: William, Hugh and May. Burt. Parowan; David A. Burt and Mrs. Lloyd Murphy, both of Klamath Falls, Ore.; brothers and sisters: David A. and A. Bain Matheson, Mrs. Barbara M. Adams, Mrs. Jo- seph E. Ward, Mrs. Taylor Miller, Mil-ler, Parowan; Kenneth R. Matheson, Math-eson, Goshen, Utah; nine grandchildren grand-children and seven great-grandchildren. |
