Show KSUB Issues Television Status Statement The following statement on the local television si'uation was submitted by he management of Rad'u Station KSUB for publication publica-tion inthe Iron County Record: Much misunderstanding has resulted from last week's City Coordinating Council Meeting on Television in the Cedar City area and we of KSUB wish to clarify some of the points brought out at the meeting. First of all concerning the booster situation. So far the Federal Fed-eral Communications Commission has not made a decision concerning con-cerning "on channel booster", and n one knows what that dc-i dc-i and no one knows what that de-! de-! made. KSUB has no control over this decision one way or another. Years ago when the FCC divided divid-ed up the television spectrum and alloted different channels to different dif-ferent communities, channel 5 was alloca'ed to Cedar City. Therefore anyone who wishes to put up a television station in Cedar Ce-dar City must apply for channel 15. Whether or no', upon investigation, investi-gation, the FCC will grant a li-I li-I cense to telecast on Channel 5 ifrom Cedar City is again en'ire-i ly up to the FCC. As plans now stand the target date for the he-ginning he-ginning of Television Broadcast, ing will be early Fall. KSUB-TV will be affiliated with a new television tel-evision station in Provo, also owned by the Beehive Telecast-I ing Corporation. This Provo -sta-1 tion will be affiliated with one or more of the national networks. KSUB-TV will pick up the Provo signal . . microwave it to Cedar City, and re-broadcast it to tne people of this area. In this way KSUB-TV will provide viewers witn the top naMonal programing, pro-graming, on the spot sports and news coverage, as well as feature fea-ture films and local programs, both educational and entertaining. entertain-ing. Some doubt has been cast on the ability of the Cedar City area to financially support KSUB-TV or any other television broadcast, ing station. We feel that KSUB-TV KSUB-TV will be a financial success. The largest expense in television broadcasting, by far, is the day to day programing. The cost of producing good TV shows is high. I The cost of good late films is, high. However, by receiving the! bulk of our programming from' Provo, this cost will be cut down to the bare minimum, bringing good television features within the reach of our local advertisers. advertis-ers. There has been some misunderstanding misun-derstanding about color TV. It is true that KSUB-TV will broadcast broad-cast their TV programs In color, but it has been said that in order or-der to receive the KSUB-TV signal sig-nal that practically all Cedar City set owners would need to re-place re-place their sets, because there are very few color TV sets In this area. This is not true. The KSUB-TV KSUB-TV signal will be broadcast in compatible color, which means I the picture can be seen on your present black and white receiver, or in color on a color TV set. If you want to receive KSUB-TV singal in color, then you must have a color set. It Is a matter of Individual choice whether or not you convert to color or continue con-tinue to enjoy television in black and white. Many programs are broadcast in color by the networks net-works at the present time, and can be received in color on a color set, however, this fact does not diminish the enjoyment of the same program in black and white. I KSUB and the Beehive Telecasting Tele-casting Corporation are working hard to provide local live TV, wi'h good national programing to the people of this area. We feel that it is a service that he people want and will support. |
