Show School Teachers Assemble for j Fifth Conference Some 175 elementary teachers and supervisors of school districts dis-tricts In southern Utah and Nevada Ne-vada will gather at College of Southern Utah Friday and Saturday, Sat-urday, Feb. 7 and 8. This will too the fifth annual CSU conference confer-ence on Elementary Education. Conference chairman Is Dr. Joseph M. Fillerup, chairman of the CSU division of education. The two-day meet will cen'or i around curriculum enrichment with special emphasis on the use of community resources, said Dr. Fillerup. Elementary education Dr. Samuel Sam-uel J. McLaughlin, head of the department of elementary education educa-tion at the University of Utah will address the conference, according ac-cording to Dr. Fillerup. McLaughlin Is a graduate of Northwest College. He received an M. A. degree from Syracuse University and a Ph.D. from New York, in 1936. According to Dr. Fillerup he has had an active role In the development of curriculum cur-riculum enrichment and Is looked look-ed to as an authority in the field. He will address the conference con-ference on both days of the meer. The program calls for the teachers to make one of several field trips into the community of Cedar City to search out new classroom projects. Each teacher teach-er group will be directed by resource re-source leaders said Dr. Fillerup. Filler-up. Transportation, communications, communica-tions, social behavior and a current cur-rent controve; al Issue are a few of the areas to be investigated1 by the teacher groups. In addition to the work and study sessions, the agenda includes in-cludes a banquet In CSU Student Stu-dent Commons and special films reporting a recent survey of elementary ele-mentary school activities in the southern Utah area. Assisting Dr. Fillerup are Mrs. Gwyn Clark, supervisor of teacher teach-er training at CSU and Miss Mary McMillan, curriculum director for Iron County. |
