Show Television Interest Revived By Active Programs Television for Cedar City and other parts of the county is occupying oc-cupying a number of people this week because of action of various var-ious groups. The first concrete action of the county and school district recreation rec-reation committees on the television tele-vision problem since state legislation leg-islation was adopted making it possible for such agencies to spend tax money for such purposes, pur-poses, has been taken this week. The combined committee met during the week to discuss the matter and a decision was reached reach-ed to proceed Immediately with a detailed study of costs that may be Involved and the success that may be expected from such a program. This strdy Is now being made and as soon as all Information is compiled another meeting will be held to determine what action ac-tion will be taken. In the meantime, John Rowber-ry Rowber-ry and associates, who brought the first television signal Into the area, have decided to proceed pro-ceed with a test of what translator trans-lator service will providf for the area. Engineers have expressed the opinion that a satisfactory signal could be provided thru translator Installation. The Channel 5 booster system sys-tem has been discontinued for the current week, while translator translat-or equipment is being Installed on an experimental basis. It is understood that experiments will be conducted on all three Salt Lake channels to determine the type of signal and service that could be provided if permanent installations are made. The outcome of these studies and experiments will determine action to be taken by the county coun-ty and school district. However, it is expected that it will take sometime before a decision can be reached and considerable additional ad-ditional time before permanent Installations could be made if a favorable decision is reached. In the meantime Trameommu-nlty Trameommu-nlty Television Corporation, pro. vldlng closed circuit service for Cedar City, has taken steps to make Its service more readily available to a larger number of homes, by discontinuing the $150 Installation charge that has been in effect since the service was 1 initiated. |
