Show LIVING IN THE ESCALANTE VALLEY By Mrs. Jack MoyU COMMUNITY ACTIVITY The regular Cub Scout Den meeting for dens No. 1 and No. 2 was held at the school house on Saturday afternoon. May 11. This meeting was under the dl-rection dl-rection of Den Mother Frances Piper. Rev. George Geftakys of Whit, tier, Calif., conducted services on Sunday May 12. A good crowd' attended. - A diptherla and smallpox cli-nic cli-nic was held at the valley school! house on Tuesday, May 14. Mrs. Alice Barton and Dr. J. S. Prest-wich Prest-wich attended. They were assist-! ed by Mrs. Edith Hunt. PTA president for the past year, Mrs. Marilyn Holt, president for the coming year; Mrs. Marion Wool-! sey of Newcastle; Mrs. Maryj Moyle and Mrs. Mabel Nlelson. i The Escalante Valley Wildlife! meeting was held at the school house Tuesday night, May 14. Regular quilting sessions are being held at the school house; in order to have the school quilt ready for the closing of school and PTA social next week. LIONS FIRST ANNIVERSARY The first anniversary birthday party of the Escalante Valley Lions Club was held Friday evening, eve-ning, May 10. A lovely birthday birth-day cake was made and decorated decorat-ed by Mrs. Edith Hunt. Dinner was prepared and served by Mrs. Marty Wood, Mrs. Corrlne Ap-plegate Ap-plegate and Mrs. Marilyn Holt. Special guests for the evening were Scott Tullis of Newcastle, who gave a very interesting account ac-count of experiences and activity activi-ty while attending school for the blind in California. Scott showed pictures of the school and of the other eight men and the woman who attended school with him. Scott feels very hap-ply hap-ply about his dog and said It was the best friend he ever had. Air Force Recruiting Sergeant Edsinga of St. George showed a film on civil defense and gave comments. An election of officers was held with the following officers retained: Don Applegate, president; presi-dent; Bruno Biasl, first vice president; pres-ident; Austin Moyle, second vice president; Kay Jollev. secretary: Otto Fife tail twister. Joe Del-Vecchio Del-Vecchio was voted In as Hon tamer. Two new board members were appointed. Ladies night was set for Sat-uiday, Sat-uiday, May 25 at Caselton, Nev. . . AROUND ABOUT Bruno Blast and son Gary at. tended the F F A fathers and sons banquet at Enterprise on Friday night. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Moyle, Mrs. Maud Moyle, Marjorie and Spencer, left Friday evening for Salt Lake City where Mr. Moyle I attended a meeting. They came home by way of Highway 89 and Antimony. Mr. and Mrs. John C. McGarry of the Valley were guests for a Mother's Day dinner at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Butler on Sunday. . . Mr. and Mrs. Joe Romero have had at their home the two children chil-dren of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lunt. 'Jerry is a son of Mrs. Romero. A baby girl was born at the iron County Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. David Love on Tuesday, May 14. Friends in the Valley I wish them the best. The William and Ray .Hunt families, Mrs. Eva Wilcox l of Salt Lake City; Lane Austin, Mr. and Mrs. Stanford Holt, the Misses Rose Ann Moyle and Evle Crum and the Jack Moyle family, fam-ily, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Barlock-er Barlock-er and Dennis and Beverly. During the' afternoon session Heber Wayne Holt was sustained as president of the Uvada Stake Y M M I A. with Jack Moyle as ' age group counselor. Clair Hunt remained as activity counselor and Raymond Stahell as secretary. secre-tary. Mr. and Mrs. Grant B. Snow alnd daughter Glennda of Delta, visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Heber Wayne Holt on Saturday Sat-urday and Sunday. The Snows are the parents and sister of Mrs. Holt. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Barlocker are back on the farm after spending spend-ing the winter in Cedar City. Dennis and Beverly will remain In Cedar until the close of school. Dennis, recently returned from Oregon, Washington and Alaska iv'iere he filled a mission, representing rep-resenting the Uvada Stake, spoke in conference Sunday. He also rendered a vocal solo. Beverly will graduate from the Cedar High School this month; Mr. and Mrs. Merlin Bundy of Fredonla visited at the R.y Hunt home on Saturday. |
