Show Little League All-Stars Journey Home Following Sacramento Loss The Cedar City Little League all-stars returned home after dropping a tough luck game to Sacramento Saturday in the Sectional Sec-tional Championship game. The loss ended tournament play for the Cedar City team and moved Sacramento into the' regional tournament at Santa Monica.this week. The Cedar team reached the sectional championship game by means of a bye In the first round and a thrilling victory oves Val-lejo, Val-lejo, Calif. In the second round. The team entered the sectional tournament at Sacramento as a result of winning the district championship at Reno, Nev. on three successive wins over the1 best teams that Nevada could produce. ( First Rot Pitching j The Cedar All-stars won the Vallejo game by a 3 to 0 margin, I behind the sensational pitching of Kent Smith. The first man to face Smith laid down a bunt that resulted in the scratchiest kind of a hit. and from that time to the end of the game not one of the Californians was able to connect con-nect with another hit. The one-hit performance of Smith stood the Cedar boys In good stead, because the Vallejo Valle-jo team was a tough opponent. Not until the fourth inning did Cedar break into the scoring column, col-umn, and the first run came as the result of a home run by Steve Cahoon. Donnle Roberts followed with a double and scored scor-ed when Danny Lindsay doubled. doub-led. The third run came when Lindsay scored on a throwing error. er-ror. The victors could not score in any other inning. Running Specs In the championship game Cedar Ce-dar went down to a 9 to 7 defeat in a game in which the breaks went against them at critical moments. One bad Inning cost the Cedar crew the game. After scoring only one run in the first inning Sacramento staged a big rally in the second good for seven sev-en runs most of them unearned, although they did come up with some solid hitting Including two home runs. As usual the Cedar team made a fine impression at Sacramento, not only for the headsun play at all times, but for their fine sportsmanship and excellent behavior. be-havior.
