This trailer belonging to Andrew An-drew Van Lines of Norfolk, Va., and driven by James Fowler Fow-ler of that city, caused $1400 damages at Jones Motor Co. garage early Sunday afternoon when the air brakes on the unit gave way allowing it to roll from 400 South and Main into the corner of the Jones Motor building. Fowler indicated that he was traveling south when he slowed down to allow a preceding automobile to turn west on 400 South. When he attempted to gear down the drive line broke. Fowler set the air brakes to the unit partially par-tially blocking the entrance to 400 South and went across the street to call for assistance. The brakes gave way and the trailer began rolling backwards and jackknifed Into the Jones Motor building. In addition to hitting the comer post and shattering most of the glass in the display windows win-dows it hit a 1959 Ford on the used car line and forced it back into a 1939 Fiat. Damages to automobiles amounted to almost $225 with the remainder of the damage confined to the building. Investigating officer was Jack Miller of the Cedar City police department. |
