Show Treasury Department Recognizes Support of Schools Education and U. S. Savings Bonds are natural partners, in the view of the Treasury De-partment. De-partment. In a public service newspaper ad released today as part of the Bond program's 20th anniversary observance, October was designated desig-nated as "Education Month" in recognition of the support of school officials in promoting the sale of Savings Stamps and Bonds as classroom training in thrift and citizenship. The message included a statement state-ment fiom Ewai.l Turner, president presi-dent of the National Education Association, pointing out that weekly "Stamp Days" in school carried on with the volunteer help of PTAs and women's or ganizations offer students something they can do for their country and themselves. "The program aids two sound causes," Mr. Turner said, "greater "great-er personal opportunity in the future and greater national security se-curity now. The School Savings Program is rich In educational benefits! I hope It will continue to flourish." The Treasury's "Education Month" message also stressed the part bond-buying has had in financing fi-nancing higher education for young people, stating: "Many of today's graduates owe their higher high-er learning, and its priceless benefits, to the foresight of their parents who signed up for Savings Sav-ings Bonds on payroll savings or the bonda-month plan." |
