Final phase of the improvement improve-ment program is nearing completion com-pletion the first extensive pro-,;,am pro-,;,am undertaken since the dedi-tation dedi-tation of the building in 11)33, it was pointed out by the postmaster. postmas-ter. Several changes, particularly regarding the landscaping, have been made which has drawn quite wide comment, the Postmaster Post-master declared. Foremost among questions asked regarding the program is the reason for the elimination of the two pine trees from the front of the building. The Postmaster indicated that one of the principal reasons for taking out the pine trees was for safety purposes. He pointed out that the trees had grown quite large and that the tree on the south of the entrance shaded the enrance way to the building and created a hazard with ice and snow during the winter months. On the north the installation of a new 10 foot aluminum flag pole has replaced that large pine tree. This is also a move toward safety, eleminating the former pole which was located on the roof of the Federal building. Several shrubs and plants surrounding sur-rounding the building were taken tak-en out and a new landscaping plan has been initiated to better display the building and more properly indentify it, Mr. Wood stated. The new shrubs and plants will not be fully developed for another two years, it was pointed point-ed out. Other repairs included repainting repaint-ing of terra cotta cornices and coping of the brick work; replacing re-placing 14 square feet of concrete con-crete pavement in the driveway and the installation of a new drainage system on the orth east corner of the bu'lding to eliminate another hazardous icing ic-ing area during the winter months. A new copper plate was also installed over the terra cotta cornice over the front entrance of the building to eliminate water wat-er draining over that area and (Continued on Pago 8) fX--., :"X r; . :' , RULON WOOD. Mr. Wood also announced that a second drive-in Mail Box has been installed immediately North of the Federal building.
